What are the driver’s requirements?

The minimum age required to drive is 19 years and be in possession of a valid driving license for at least one year. A young driver’s rate applies to drivers who are 25 years of age or under.

There is a senior driver rate for drivers aged 75 years or more.

The above fees are 7.5€ per day.

If the driving license is not in the Roman alphabet (i.e. if it is in Arabic, Greek, Russian or Chinese), an International Driving Permit and a national driving license must be brought.

All drivers should present a valid driver’s license and passport/ID. We require the physical documents; no photos or copies are accepted.

If you choose the option without the PLUS Insurance, there is a deposit attached to your reservation. If you add the PLUS Insurance, no deposit is required*. The amount of the deposit varies depending on the category the car:

Category B – 1.100€
Category D – 1.500€
Category D1 -1.500€
Category E – 1.900€
Category E1 – 1.900€
Category F7 7 Seat Car– 2.000€

Category F7 Premium Automatic – 2.500€

Category S Premium – 2.500€

Category S Premium Automatic- 2.500€

*Category H Plug-In Automatic – 2.500€ – requires a 500€ deposit with PLUS Insurance

You do not need to have a credit card for the deposit, you can use a debit card or cash. The card used must be in the name and surname of the driver.

  • A compulsory collision and theft (CDW) insurance (TP) with excess is included in the price.
  • In the event of damage, you will have to pay an amount not exceeding the excess. The amount of the excess varies according to the category of car.
  • A third party liability insurance (TPL) of EUR 500.000.00 is included.
  • In case the vehicle is stolen, you will have to pay an amount not exceeding the excess;
  • Roadside Assistance (except negligent situations like chipped tires, car with no battery, loss of keys, burnt clutch etc.)

It has a cost of 25€ per day extra, on top of the daily rate.

  • Reduces financial responsibility in case of damage to the vehicle/in case of accidents.

  • Protection against theft or attempted theft (except for objects left inside the vehicle).
  • Severe damage to the car caused by negligent driving (driving into walls, parked cars, swerving off the driveway, etc);
  • Severe damage to the car caused by negligent parking (forbidden areas, failure to use hand brake, hitting the undercarriage or car roof, broken headlights or windows);
  • Chipped tires (side of the tire) and damage to the wheel rims;
  • Burnt clutch and engine damage;
  • Damage to the car seats or interior of the car;
  • Failure to report accidents /any damage to the car within 24h with a police report;
  • In the case of severe damage the client is responsible for the excess amount. This amount varies depending on the category of the car.

If you have proceeded with the payment of 25% of your booking online, then it is automatically confirmed. You shall receive an email with the “Status of your booking: Confirmed”. If you don’t make the payment, you will only receive an email stating the “Status of your booking: Validating Payment”.

If payment is not done immediately, your reservation expires, and you will have to do it again.

Yes, you must pay 25% of your booking online to guarantee your reservation. You must pay when you complete your booking otherwise it expires and you must do it again.

If you cancel your booking up to 48h before your pickup date/time, we refund you the 25%. Within the 48h timeframe we do not make refunds.

The remaining amount of your booking is paid on the day you receive the car. You can pay in card (debit or credit) or cash.

To cancel your booking, you must send an email to info@madpoint.pt. Refunds can take up to 10 working days to become available in your account.

Yes, up to 48h before your booking. All changes to your booking must be done by email. Please email info@madpoint.pt

If your modification influences a change in price, it will be according to the price being used in the moment of that change.

We ask you to return with the same level of fuel you receive. There will be no refund for any fuel left over by the customer.

If the customer does not return with the same level of fuel as received, a charge of €25 will be levied for every ¼ tank of fuel missing.

  1. Airport – we require your arrival flight number and one of our agents will be waiting outside the arrivals. A quick 3 minutes shuttle will take you to our office behind the airport.
    We only do rentals between 8am-2am (out of hours fee may apply).
  1. Hotel in Funchal/Hotel outside Funchal (from 9h18h) – we require the hotel name/address and one of our agents will meet you at the reception. If your hotel does not have parking we are not able to deliver the car, you will have to collect it from our office in Funchal or Airport and we remove the hotel fee.

Yes, we deliver cars at the airport outside our workings hours, from 8am until 2am. There is an additional fee of 35€ for pickup and drop offs outside working hours.

Our working hours at the Funchal office are from 09h00 – 18h00.
We do not deliver cars or collect cars outside our working hours from our office in Funchal or accommodations in or outside Funchal.

Please inform us as soon as possible of the status of your flight.

If your flight is delayed and arrives outside our working hours (19h00-08h30) a charge of 35€ will be added to the total of your booking. We only do rentals from 8am to 2am.

If your flight is cancelled and you wish to keep your reservation, please let us know so that the car remains reserved for you. The price of the booking will not be changed.

We only refund 25% of what you paid online if you cancel 48h before your arrival pickup date/time. Aside from this, we do not make any refunds.

We are a small company with only 2 or 3 cars of the same model, therefore we are not able to guarantee car models to clients. We can make a note of your preference and do our best to deliver this to you, however we can never promise.

We work with groups of cars that have similar characteristics in terms of power, not specifically the size of the car.

We provide roadside assistance from 9h-18h. After this time, you are asked to contact police in case of any accident or the insurance number for a tow truck. These contacts are provided when picking up the car.

For negligent situations (loss of keys, chipped tires, misfuelling, car with no battery) the client is charged with assistance fee.

We do not guarantee a replacement vehicle in case of negligence.

It is strictly forbidden to take our cars to the island of Porto Santo.
